The Six Bells has been a village pub for over 600 years. It was originally an inn and coach house, then the Royal British Legion club was added to the side, before its present lay out with a pub, restaurant and function room. For the last 16 years it has been run by the White family who have been living in Fulbourn for nearly as long as the pub itself.
During this period the pub has seen a lot of changes with many regular features being added, such as Lindy's Quiz on Thursday nights, pensioners lunch, Wednesday Jazz, Christmas draw and Christmas day lunches along with a host of other events.
Having been there so long, the Six Bells is as much owned by its customers as it is the Whites, and without them it wouldn't be the success it is. From campaigning to keep Burton on the pumps, to getting Wherry on from the Norfolk breweries the customers help enhance the offering.
We believe down to our boots that local food and drink is best. We go out to find the best local produce we can.
Ever wondered where the seasonal veg for the Bells comes from? There is a good chance that some of that veg was grown in Horace’s garden less than half a mile from the pub. In his acre garden the head of the family is prepared to bend his back to ensure the produce is the best, organic, home grown food for miles around.
Why do we love game so much? Because we believe game is the freshest meat you can buy, all our game comes from the village shoot and has not seen a freezer or package in its life. Our head Chef, Rossy, is not just famous for his homemade soups but also for his game pies, casseroles, curries and steaks. Any veg Horace can’t produce comes from Richard's greengrocers on the High Street. Villages are all about the community and the Six Bells is no different – by eating and drinking at the Bells you are also supporting the other village shops.
We are rather proud of our bitters and have been in CAMRA’s good beer guide for over 15 years running. We change our guest beers almost daily to offer the widest choice. We have also won several awards for the Carlsberg we have sold.
WE NEED YOUR HELP. It is our mission to continue to champion local food and drink but we can only do that with your help. If you like something tell others – if you don’t, tell us – we will change it.
